Dear Folks,

I am pleased to announce that Christina Way will be our new Director of Administration, succeeding Ellen Chatard, who retires after 18 years at Redeemer. Thank you, Ellen, for your commitment and grace.

Christina Way

Christina was formed by the rhythms of the Episcopal church: raised at St. James, Cabin John, married at St. Stephen and the Incarnation in DC, granddaughter of the longtime parish secretary at St. Mary’s, Arlington. She and her husband, Jim Stipe, came to Redeemer in the fall of 2020, as we gathered for the Holy Eucharist outside on chilly Tuesday mornings. The weekly commitment to assemble during the pandemic, no matter what, deeply moved her, and they were members in a matter of weeks. Early on she took part in an online Sacred Ground group, and later helped lead the work of the history committee, as we explored Redeemer’s experiences before the Civil War and through the period of Jim Crow.

Christina has been a leader in non-profit management for almost 20 years, with responsibilities in finance, HR, IT, and communications. She has a track record of building strong relationships and collaborating effectively with people across organizational systems. At Catholic Relief Services over a15-year tenure, Christina served as employee services manager, as right-hand to the Executive Vice-President for Strategy, and as organizational change manager. In her final posting there, she led a software rollout in four languages for 6500 employees across 65 countries.

In her letter of application, Christina wrote, “I am drawn to this opportunity to bring my experience to bear in service of a faith community that I hold dear,” noting the significance to her of her grandmother’s service in a parish. “It is coming home to dwell,” she said. Christina begins her tenure in this new capacity as we begin our walk through Holy Week. Here’s to a blessed journey.

Love,
David
