Bach in Baltimore: Copland & Mozart

The Church of Redeemer hosts Bach in Baltimore’s performance of COPLAND & MOZART on May 21 at 4 pm. Go beyond Bach with an instrumental pairing of 20th-century and 18th-century masterpieces by two behemoths: Aaron Copland and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Maestro T. Herbert Dimmock leads the Bach in Baltimore Orchestra in Copland’s original version of Appalachian Spring, written for 13 instrumentalists. An iconic American work, Martha Graham commissioned the piece for a ballet. Copeland painted a musical backdrop for a story depicting a farmhouse, a pioneer wedding, and a young couple on the brink of future joys and hardships. To conclude the concert, Peter Cain, clarinetist from the National Symphony Orchestra, joins the orchestra for Mozart’s final instrumental composition, Clarinet Concerto in A Major. The work is regarded as the greatest clarinet concerto and is among the finest written for any solo instrument.
